Chapter 16
âWhoa, this is seriously good. And you made it in your crock pot? Really?â Sierra took another bite of the goulash that Roman had cooking all day in his trailer. She didnât think sheâd had anything like this before. Heâd even toasted French bread in his toaster oven. It was amazing what one could make in a trailer with just a few gadgets.
He grinned. âYes, itâs one of my favorite dishes. It always reminds me of my Grandma Holcombe. I was young when she died, but boy howdy could she cook.â
They all sat in silence for a few minutes as they devoured their bowls of food.
âI canât believe how successful your booth has been this week,â Boone said between bites of his goulash and French bread.
Roman hadnât expected their booth to sell out of slots like it did. They only had a couple of people so far not show up, and those who waited at their booth were happy to take any open slots, no matter how short they were. He wasnât sure, but he thought he might even have made some new contacts for selling calves to.
There was one rancher who wanted to breed Scotty with some of their cattle, but Roman wasnât sure about lending their favoriteâand onlyâHighland bull. He had a few bull calves; maybe once they were old enough, he would offer stud services. Although, they werenât full-blooded Highland bulls. They were crossbreeds. Once this fair was over, he and John needed to sit down and figure out exactly what they were going to do moving forward. Highland cows were really hot right now, but he didnât know how long the market would last. And with the Millers next door breeding full-blooded Highlands, he might not be able to compete.
âI have a lot of ideas for expanding the business. But what we need is someone to come on who has crafting knowledge. We need to build up product for the gift shop part of our booth. Itâs only a couple of months until the Christmas fair, and thatâs always the biggest seller of crafts.â Roman tilted his head. âAt least, thatâs what my mom said. She suggested we check with the church to see if anyone wants to join us and help out.â
Annie widened her eyes and looked at Sierra.
âWhat? Do you know someone?â Roman asked when he noticed the silent exchange between the two.
âActually, Annie and I both like to craft. There are times when we have an entire day with nothing to do, so we spent it making things.â Sierra shrugged.
âReally? What do you do with them? You have a tiny trailer; I canât imagine you have much room for storage.â Boone shoved another forkful of goulash into his mouth and lowered his lids halfway in pure pleasure. âIf you could do a goulash booth, youâd have lines out the door.â
With a chuckle, Roman shook his head. âNah, if we were going to do a food booth or truck, it would be something to do with burgers and steaks.
